Inner Light
Sea Turtle swims, slowly, gracefully beneath the surface. She represents wisdom – plunging under the surface of appearances. Her progress is steady, artful. And, she is connected to both land and sea – to outer form as well as inner. She is the totem for entering a new world, a new life. Turtles live for many years. So, she tells us to be patient, to go easily into the depths where light is dappled and reflects curiously on the substances moving thru the current. All that we need will open to us as we journey towards our goal.
Affirmation for Turtle Medicine – “I am open to moving with the waters of life that I may find my true place and fulfillment.”.

At the core of your being there is a place, a sense, a yearning for great beauty – for the expression of that beauty in life, in work, in your communication with others. You want to touch it, to bring it forward and show it to the world. You know that, fundamentaly, it is who you are. Yes, this is really who you are! And you are coming to recognize that now is the time for you to begin to manifest this interior vision – time to live the life that you have always wanted for yourself.
In my personal work with Light, I’ve discovered three distinct but often overlapping categories:
1). Artificial Light. This can include mechanical (electric etc.) light – but the term also relates to imagination i.e. the varieties of illumination used in visualization exercises and forms of meditation. This aspect of light is therefore man/woman-made – yet can be therapeutically beneficial when used well.
2) Qualified Light. Just as sunlight passes through a prism and produces the spectrum of color, so does spiritual light produce a spectrum of individualized (according to its applications) forms. Some examples would be the Light of Reike healing, the chakra colors, various frequencies of light identified with specific spiritual lineages (see “shakti” in hindu tradition).
This form of light is closer to the original creative ray but, as has been noted above, is specified and carries a unique vibrational signature.
3). Uncreated Light. This is the source energy. It carries within its field Divine Intelligence (while qualified Light is only a refection of that ) – and is always experienced in connection to “flow” or Spirit. Uncreated Light cannot be harnessed or channeled however. Rather it harnesses us, uses us and transforms us.
The term Uncreated is applicable because this source light is not created ( I say “is” since It exists outside of time). Light has always been. In the words of the Judeo/Christian Genesis story: “Let there be Light”. The created order evolves as expressions of Light. But the “moment” of its appearance is an eternal one (before, if you will, the binding rotation of time).
WHAT IF…
This beauty, this light that you experience – what if it is meant for some purpose, perhaps to inspire you to create some newness in your life? What if the light has intelligence woven into its vibration that has been communicating to you over time, to enliven and illuminate your heart’s dream, your secret passion to evolve, become something beyond what you have imagined yourself to be so far? What if light has a language, a directive, a mission – and that mission is your life, your future, who you are meant to be? What if this is real – all this imagining, all the “feelings” you’ve had about yourself since childhood? What if now is the time for it to manifest?
Light moves in you, through your body, your heart, at the back of your neck, up and down your spine saying – as it says to me…
You Have A Light Empowered Mission
Yes, there is a lot of discussion these days about the importance of knowing our Life’s Purpose as a means to empowering ourselves. Life Purpose is about “how” we live our lives, how we apply our values to the fields of thought and activity.
Mission however, takes that focus a step further. It is about “what” we are here to do. Finding that direction in ourselves is a great motivator for the internal evolutionary process of conscious growth. “Knowing” what it is we are about, and how we can contribute to the greater good and connectedness of all is exciting, inspiring -charged with emotional energy as well as consistency of intent.
But consider this: If that motivation gets charged, not only with emotion, but with a Spiritual energy as well – with LIGHT, then our motivation becomes supernatural, cosmic, in scope – tied to a greater plan, to our destiny.
When I speak of Light, I’m not speaking of a subjective, or qualified energy, a ray, if you will, of specific purpose and intent (i.e. the differentiated lights of various healing modalities – very useful and highly charged with power and authority), but what I am speaking of here is that Source Light, the Uncreated, First Energy of Pure Knowing.
So, how do we access this energy?
1. by receiving it in initiation, from a spiritual master
2. thru personal meditation
3. thru intuition ( and here, I want to distinguish a difference between intuition – that which we recognize as a “knowing” from within, and psychic information which comes from some external guidance – a valuable source of information, but information distinguishable as “knowledge” as opposed to “knowing”).
4. from Revelation – directly from the “Intelligence” that is contained in, or radiates from, or emanates from the Light.
As you can see, a system of Enlightened awareness about our Mission on earth can be a source of great personal freedom – the freedom of knowing where to turn, which direction to move in to enable ourselves to go forward. And this is indeed about freedom. Mission is not the same as predestination or fate. It is more about all of our qualities, values, and ideals – as well as our strengths, coming together to show us (in that Light, the Light that illuminates the path before us) what choices exist for us and (because of the Wisdom revealed by Light) which choices are in our best interest. We still have the Free Will to decide for ourselves and, indeed we can opt for any variety of choices, but the key is in the Light; as like attracts like (see the Law of Attraction), so does this purest of energies attract the purest of possibilities to our conscious minds.
“The experience of Light comes from the way we live. As we give it to others, Joy increases. But, only as we give. Giving Light is the way to receive Light. There is no other.”
The Distinguishable Quality of Enlightened Senses
At the core of each – seeing, hearing, feeling, etc.,
is a glowing, weightless, immaterial light that
perceives its own reflection in living people and
things. This light rejoices, blazes from recognition
of other lights – and, that central/same glow in
mind and heart draws forth, by desire and intent,
those seeking radiances. It is the nature of
illumined beings to sense their fellow sparks –
not only in enlightened ones, but also from the jewel
that hides beneath a base facade. The soul of each
is yearning for its purity. And we, servants of
the light, have no truer mission than to shine, to
let the star-like pulse, our deepest selves, express.
We learn the language that excites a fire in others,
send out blessing from our treasury, touch the world
through senses all aglow. And oh the wonderment,
when SOMETHING touches us!…
THE POWER THAT COMES FROM ASKING BIG QUESTIONS
What if you were born into this world to accomplish something specific? What if you knew what that was? How would that feel?
Questions are the starting points for all of life’s journeys. It begins when we’re very young, seeking to understand the ways of this world we’ve been thrown into. We ask WHY of every new idea, every puzzling construct of thought. Our minds search for meaning and, as meanings take shape, we begin to attribute value to the things that attract us most: “This experience is good, this sunrise beautiful, these people are kind; we love them”.
As we mature, we take our inner dialogue a step farther by responding to the question ” How shall I express myself in the world?” Here, we begin to apply those values we’ve accumulated towards developing our personalities and belief systems. A sense of PURPOSE starts to emerge; our lives become rooted in feelings and emotions that serve as motivators for all our actions. At this point it’s all about us and how we’re learning to appreciate and qualify the impressions we take in.
Soon we come to sense that we are headed somewhere on this path that we’ve been following. Perhaps we have some DESTINY to fulfill. Looking around, we see that the sense of “Where am I going?” is being answered by the way people and things mirror our ideals. They attract us to themselves; and we willingly enter into associations with them. That grouping of relationships is stimulated by the movement of our Life’s Spirit, our focused interest in newness, and following the “flow” of our heart’s desire.
Eventually, we become hypersensitive to that “flow”. In this new awareness, we ask ourselves “What am I here to do?” Yes, we’ve seen, up until now, that our lives are progressing with a purpose, but that purpose is all about our personal enjoyments in life. There’s something more as well – something we want to do that will “contribute” to the rest of the world. Perhaps it’s a single task, or series of tasks. It feels like our Soul is crying out: We have a MISSION! And we want to know what that mission is.
“When will all of this become clear?” we wonder. And that question prods us forward on our search. Indeed, it becomes a repeating theme for our lives. Yes, we do experience scattered “moments” of fulfillment and realization, times when our conscious choices produce tangible results in the physical world. Then, philosophy becomes reality, and we are able to appreciate the fruits of our internal labors. But we want more, don’t we? We want to know everything!
That exclamation highlights our hunger to answer the biggest question of all: “Who am I?” All of the pieces of meaning, purpose, destiny, mission, and realization have come together in us to create that broader picture. And the impetus behind each of them, the why, how, where, what, and when have enabled us to create the VISION of a continually unfolding answer.
Knowing these things gives us a sense of confidence – and power as well, the power that comes from knowing that we have the ability to create our personal reality.
Yet, there is also a greater kind of KNOWING – greater even than those senses of mission or purpose, greater than the transitory “roles” we might build for ourselves, however useful they may be. This KNOWING is the deeper principle of the I AM that resides beneath the various changeable manifestations of our identities. It is the knowing of an existence outside of time and space – our spiritual center, the part of us that touches on the Eternal. Everything else is but a step in the dance and flow of our journey through this world of cyclical seasons.
The closer we get to this deeper KNOWING, the closer we get to the primal power that is within us – the power to encourage an elevated consciousness for ourselves fed by the rushing current of the combined elements mentioned above.
As we move through that creative process, living in this world of cycles, we will constantly be attracted to, and attract to ourselves, purposeful destinies, new and exciting missions, in similar cycles of repetition along our upward-spiraling life paths.
And, how about this for a closing thought?: Maybe the greater meaning behind our blessed existence on earth is to be found not so much at our life’s final destination but in the simple process of living here and now.
Maybe our raison d’etre is to learn all the wonderful ways there are to love one another and how we can enjoy our time together.
And maybe our Greater Mission in this world is to help others learn to do the same.
That’s as good an answer as any, don’t you think?
SO, HOW DO WE HELP OTHERS TOWARDS THIS?
Questions: How do we help others to embody the life they desire? What does that life look like? And how can a person get quiet enough to both hear their internal guidance and perceive the Light that brings enlightenment?
The first step is to help others learn to control the “noises” in their minds by giving them some way to refocus their thinking.
Meditation is the obvious internal way to do this. But, meditation alone doesn’t address the need to maintain a state of centered “stillness” during the hours of our active lives.
What adds to our power over the “babel” of mind is knowing a way to shift from the lower, fear based confusion of everyday thinking to a higher, more inspiring mode of thought.
This can be accomplished for others by helping them to tap into their purpose and, even beyond that, their life’s mission. When the mind has the vision of a mission, it can choose to redirect its attention to that idealized object of thought.
Mission, because of its elevated nature ( something “big” that we are committed to ), and because of the aspect of soul, our internal knowing, that its contemplation carries us towards, fills us with the energy of conviction – a little understood, but powerful lens for focusing the combined levels of our consciousness into a single “purposeful” object.
When we know we have a mission, life begins to take on meaning, we no longer feel frustrated with the idea that, perhaps we’re wasting our time here – why not just let the mind wander?
Under the light of mission, we shift from that wander framework to an intent towards creativity – a search for ways to accomplish our mission, because mission is always something that we will “want” to do. Its central appeal to the emotional side of our being is the elevated principle of Beauty. Nothing is more beautiful, therefore nothing is more appealing to the mind. As we grow closer and closer to a point of completing our mission (and here’s the genius of it: we are likely to have more than one mission in our lifetimes), its reality becomes a stronger and stronger beacon to our souls. And mind is, of course, an instrument of the soul.
Mission enables the mind to throw off needless thoughts, fears, and the nagging sense of worthlessness that often plagues us because mission is the antithesis to all of these. So, ultimately, control of mind rests in the process of giving the mind something better to do with its time. Giving it meaning.
Oscar,
Beautifully written and expressed. Thanks for your invitation to respond here. You seem to be bridging the messages from Eckart Tolle’s writings and mine here with your own brilliance. In a more general way, I do believe that we are all here to be vehicles for that greater Love to flow through us–the Love that is the creating and sustaining force of the Universe. And to be present–fully present–in the moment while at the same time aware of the much larger context of the eternal now.
Yet more specific to each individual is their personal soul mission–their reason for being as an individual soul that is a part of the greater Consciousness. Each of us has come here to be a vehicle of Love, and we each, thanks to the individual gifts and talents that we each have, are called to be that vehicle in a unique way. Even when two people use the same words to express their soul missions, that energy will still move through each of them in unique ways.
So it is that we are at the same time one with all that is and differentiated in our individuality. There is the gift of heaven on earth.
Many blessings,
Alan Seale
